Join SAR and the Summit Historical Society for a class on the history of the Summit Area.

Starting in 1861 and focusing on the community neighborhoods you will learn all about the formation of Summit County and move through the people groups including Summit County First Peoples, Gold Miners, Silver Miners, Homesteaders and Ranchers, Railroad and Merchants, Skiers and Boaters. The Summit County Historical Society has scoured their archives to bring tools to best understand the history of the areas you live, and your clients may be buying in.

Instructor: Christy Nelson

While at the Society, Christy has developed Living History educational programs for children at the 1883 Dillon Schoolhouse. She has implemented the Moving Day history class for Summit County 4th graders in collaboration with History Colorado, the Colorado state historical society.

Christy is a graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder in education.  She has held numerous educational positions including elementary education in Eagle County, Cairo, Egypt, Hong Kong and Hawaii.  Before moving to Summit County, she was a corporate trainer for Motorola.

Christy has developed adult historical programs at Summit Historical Society including Historical Adventure Hikes and Tours and the Pastry & the Past lecture series.  She is a full-time resident of Breckenridge since 2003, and loves to tell the stories of towns and people of Summit County.
